The Bank, The Barn & Dunc's Story
In 1836, the William Morrison family emigrated from Scotland and put down roots in Elgin County. Fifty years later, in 1886, the first-generation Canadian-born Robert Morrison purchased a 50-acre farmland in Aldborough Township from the Canada Company. One hundred and twenty years later, Duncan Morrison, Robert’s grandson, made a life-changing decision to return to the family-owned farm, where he was born. With deep ancestral roots in the community and with a vision to establish a venue that will continue to tell the story of the community now and for years to come, Duncan and his wife, Grace McGartland, donated the 1914 Bank of Montreal building in West Lorne to The Arts & Cookery Bank, a non-profit, community-based organization. This regional and cultural hub celebrates the communities of Dutton-Dunwich, Newbury, Southwest Middlesex and West Elgin.
Born March 6, 1937, Aldborough Township
Passed Away January 27, 2012 on the Morrison Homestead Farm
